Morphological character
Adult: yellowish brown, body length 8 ~ 9mm, wing span about 18mm. The front wing is nearly triangular, with dark brown bands on the outer edge, black brown inner and outer horizontal lines, and a black brown short horizontal line connected to the front edge between the two lines. The male moth has a tuft of dark brown hair near the front edge of this short horizontal line; The inner horizontal line of the rear wing is short, the outer horizontal line reaches the rear edge, and the dark brown band on the outer edge is the same as that of the front wing; At rest, the male moth's tail often tilts upward, while the female moth's tail is straight.

Egg: oval, flat; It is white at first birth and then turns pale yellow. Black spots will be seen when hatching.

Larva: the mature larva is 14-19mm long, with 5 instars in general and 6 instars in a few. The body color changes from light yellowish green to yellowish green, and will turn orange red when it is ripe..

Damage characteristics
1. The newly hatched ~ 2nd instar larvae feed on the heart leaves to form white spots or thin strips, which mainly harm the inner side of the leaf sheath.

Living habits
1. Migratory: rice leaf roller is a migratory pest. Every year, it migrates from south to North from Southeast Asia, Hainan Island and other places with the southerly wind or typhoon in early spring.

4. During the day, the larvae hide in the bracts to feed on the mesophyll, and go out in the morning and evening in wet or dew and rainy days. The larvae have a strong green tendency; Adults have strong chemotaxis but poor phototaxis.
